Cuba is magnificent tropical nature, Havana cigars, exotic beaches, Cuban rum and colorful carnivals. And tourists from all over the world seek this paradise. But from the CIS countries the path to Cuba is by no means close. It, of course, can be overcome by water. True, this romantic trip will take a lot of time. But there is a faster and more prosaic way - this is a plane. And here many have the question - how long to fly to Cuba? Not so much: 13 hours - and you are on Liberty Island!
Since Cuba is an island state, then God himself ordered it to develop air transport. And therefore, the airports of Cuba are located in different parts of the country. There are a lot of them, but only five airports accept international flights. Of the rest, only domestic flights are carried out on small aircraft. And five international airports are located in such places as Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Varadero, Holguin and on the island of Cayo Largo. And in them airliners of such companies as Aeroflot, KLM, British Airways and others land.
And the largest airport in Cuba is named after Jose Marti - a Cuban poet and patriot. It is located in the town of Boyeros, which is 15 kilometers from Havana. This airport is the hub for several local airlines, in addition, it accepts flights from over 25 foreign airlines. Four terminals operate in it, and 4 million passengers pass through them in a year.
The first, second and fourth terminals are used only for domestic and regional flights. The third terminal is international. It is the largest and most modern of all. It was opened in 1988, with Fidel Castro and Jean Chretien, the Canadian Prime Minister, present. Here the planes of 25 airlines take off and land, which fly to more than 30 countries.
Cuba's second airport is Juan Gualberto Gomez, which accepts international flights. It serves the province of Matanzas and a famous island resort such as Varadero. The airport bears the name of a famous journalist who fought for the rights of black people on this island. This is the second busiest airport. It accepts both international and domestic flights. And through this Cuban airport, a quarter of the country's air traffic passes. It has only one terminal, which has all the amenities for passengers. These are shops, cafeterias, snack bars, kiosks and other benefits.
The next airport in Cuba is named after Frank Pe, a Cuban revolutionary. And it is located near the city of Holguin, the capital of the province of the same name. The main destination of Frank Peh Airport is to receive tourists who have arrived at the resorts of Guardalacava. There are two terminals here: one small, for domestic flights, and the second - large - accepts international flights.
Abel Santamaria is a small international airport located near the city of Santa Clara, the provincial capital of Villa Clara. It bears the name of another Cuban revolutionary and serves the central part of the island, the city of Santa Clara and resort destinations such as Cayo Ensenachos and Cayo Santa Maria.
Cuba’s fifth airport, Jardines del Rey, is located in the east of Coco Cai. Until 2002, only small planes could land here. But in December 2002 a new airport was built here that accepts international flights. This is mainly flown by tourists who want to relax in such popular resorts as Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Coco.
