The Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky M. was founded by legendary personalities. At its source stood K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. This is one of the most famous and best theaters in Russia.
Theater History
The Gorky Moscow Art Theater, a photo of the building of which is presented in this article, was founded in 1898. K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko decided to create his own theater, whose program would be based on innovative principles. They encouraged for the new style of acting, for the lack of false pathos, playing and recitation, for the new system in the performances, for the expansion and enrichment of the repertoire, for the authenticity of the recreation. The new theater was headed by V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko (who took the post of managing director) and K.S. Stanislavsky, who became the main director. The troupe was assembled from students of Vladimir Ivanovich and amateur actors who participated in the productions of Konstantin Sergeyevich.
The first performance of the theater took place in October 1898. It was the tragedy "Tsar Fedor Ivanovich" according to A. Tolstoy. In the same year, the premiere of "The Seagulls" by A.P. Chekhov took place. The theater of K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko was fresh, original, and many praised it, but there were many who scolded him. The first 4 years of its existence, the troupe did not have its own building. Performances were played in the rented premises of the Hermitage Theater. Its hall accommodated 815 spectators. The Moscow Art Theater at that time was not a state theater and did not receive subsidies from the state, depending on how much it earned by its productions, and plus from the funds of patrons, the main of which was the famous Savva Morozov, who subsequently assumed all financial affairs.
In the 20s of the 20th century, the theater was named the Moscow Art Theater and was elevated to the rank of state academic. This period was not easy, since during the work on one of the performances K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, because of disagreements, decided to abandon the joint work on the productions, as it was before. As a result, Konstantin Sergeyevich himself removed himself from work on new productions and took up only the management of the activities of young directors. The conflict ended with the fact that in 1934 Konstantin Sergeyevich left the Moscow Art Theater. The famous actor and director Oleg Efremov headed the Moscow Art Theater in the late 20th century. With him, the troupe became very large, and many artists lacked roles. This led to a conflict. The theater split into two troupes. Some of the artists left with O. Efremov and received the name of A.P. Chekhov. And other artists joined the troupe of Tatyana Doronina and remained in the Moscow Art Theater named after M. Gorky. And to this day, these two theaters exist separately.
Today in its repertoire has productions for both adults and children of the Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky. The actors here serve only the brightest and most talented. Among them are a large number of holders of the honorary titles of Honored and People's Artist of Russia. ”

More than one generation has grown on it. The favorite scene of all spectators is the one in which miracles happen: fire, bread, milk come to life. The performance has been on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater for 104 years. This is a kind of world record. No other theater has such productions that have been going on with constant success for more than a hundred years.
