About the theater
Muzkomediya (Yekaterinburg) opened its doors in 1933. The city leadership decided that the people needed a theater where they would have fun musical performances. The city was the capital of a vast area where factories were opening and the population was growing. Workers needed interesting leisure and cultural recreation. The operetta genre was ideally suited for these purposes. The director of the created team was Leonid Lukker, a drama artist.

At the music committee, a laboratory has been opened where new ideas are created, interesting performances are born, directors are given complete freedom of creativity. All this thanks to the talented and creative leadership of the institution.
Theater performances have been many times awarded various prizes, including the most prestigious. There are seventeen Golden Masks in the piggy bank of the music committee. In 1983, the Sverdlovsk operetta was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. And three years after this event, the theater, the first in its genre, received the title of Academic.
The music of Yekaterinburg is always in sight and often appears at the top of the pedestal, beating its metropolitan colleagues. On its stage, more than ten premieres of world significance and scale took place. A whole galaxy of talented artists has grown here. The theater has brought up more than one generation of spectators.

Main director
K.S. Sterzhnev is the main director of theater performances. In 1977, he graduated from the Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography in Leningrad.
In the same year, musical comedy (Yekaterinburg) invited him to his team as a director. After 9 years, he became the main director of the theater. This position is still occupied for almost 30 years.
Cyril Savelievich over the years of his creative activity staged more than forty performances. He works as a guest director in many cities of Russia and abroad.
In 2004, K. S. Sterzhnev was awarded the title of “People's Artist of Russia”. In 2008 and 2011 Kirill Savelievich became the winner of the Golden Mask award in the nomination “Best Director” for the musicals “Dead Souls” and “Silicone Fool”.
