Fishing is not only a “calling of the soul”, but also a rather difficult task. Many beginners begin to learn its basics from a float fishing rod, and only having tackled on the latter, they switch to other gear, for example, to spinning or mammys. But there are fishermen who always remain faithful to her. It is believed that a float winter fishing rod is a very catchy tackle for ice hunting. The main prey that can be caught on it is roach, bream, perch and crucian carp.
Fishing features
Many experienced hunters are sure that the float fishing rod “catches” the best. For winter fishing, it is simply irreplaceable. It is much simpler and much more convenient. At least, the fisherman does not have to constantly shake the tackle to play the bait on it. A float winter fishing rod just fits on the ice, that's all. A man does not need to do anything: you just need to watch the bite and pull out the prey.
Apparently, therefore, fish on ice in our country is caught mainly on such tackle. A winter fishing rod is great for fishing not only “peaceful” inhabitants of the depths, but also predators. Of course, large fish require a very solid construction and the most reliable equipment.
How to catch a float fishing rod in winter
For ice fishing, several holes should be drilled one after another. A fishing rod is installed in each of them. This significantly increases the nibble, since in case of bad luck from one nibble to another it will give a chance for a good catch. Drill the holes so that all the floats are visible at once, and so that they are close enough to each other so that the fisherman can react quickly.

But not everything is as simple as it seems at first glance. There are some features for using a winter fishing rod. This tackle is used more for fishing on ice, since it is more advisable to use more convenient equipment in open water. In addition, many avid anglers prefer to catch certain species with it - “white prey”, although it is possible to fish with almost all of the underwater inhabitants with it. And finally, finding prey with a fishing rod can be quite difficult, and for a long time. Therefore, to begin with, it is worth identifying the parking places, lightly feeding them, only after that start drilling holes and installing tackle.
Winter fishing is carried out in two ways: with or without a float. The principal difference between them is the bite signaling device. In the first case, the fisherman uses a special float, which is submerged under water, but at the same time is in sight. Even if the water in the hole is covered with ice, the signaling device continues to carry out its task.
In the second case, the gatehouse or a nod acts as a float. It is attached to the tip of the rod. I must say that fishing with a nod is more common among winter roads. Such equipment does not require any configuration, and therefore is more convenient.
How to equip a winter fishing rod
To get home from fishing with a rich catch, you need to know some secrets. And first of all, they relate to such an urgent issue as snap-in of a winter float fishing rod. It should correspond to the intended place of fishing and prey. A good snap of a winter fishing rod is, first and foremost, the right balance. Many amateur fishers prefer to buy ready-made models so as not to waste time on their own production. But experienced winters believe that the most catchy fishing rod is a do-it-yourself fishing rod and tailored specifically for the owner.
In general, all varieties of fishing rods intended for ice fishing are divided into two main types. The first is sports: he has a coil connected to the handle to reduce weight. Support for her are the legs that fold. However, they are not too reliable, since strong winds can easily knock them over, and therefore such equipment requires additional strengthening. The second type of fishing rod is amateur. In its manufacture, the manufacturer’s attention is focused on the convenience of its use, and not on subtlety.
How to make a winter fishing rod
There are a huge number of different gear designs used for ice fishing. As for the fishing rod, then for its manufacture there are no special rules. The main condition is the strength and lightness of the structure, a rather flexible tip. The latter is necessary in order to be able to successfully pluck prey and hook it. In order to make a fishing rod with his own hands, the angler will need a fishing rod, fishing line, float, sinker, hook and mormyshki.
The easiest float winter fishing rod is the “filly”. It is very popular with anglers due to its strength, reliability and the availability of a flexible tip. In addition, such a fishing rod is made of material that does not change its properties even in severe frost. The main feature of the "filly" is the winding of the fishing line on the reel, which, according to experienced winter roads, is incredibly convenient.
Some anglers equip the usual mormuscular “balalaika” with legs for installation on ice and catch with such a fishing rod.
Fishing line
The most important thing that you must remember when choosing: it should be unused and soft. If you have to catch a small fish - crucian carp, perch, roach, etc., then it is worth taking fishing line with a diameter of 0.1 mm. A thick cord can frighten off prey, and there will no longer be a bite. However, a fishing line with such a diameter should be strong and of high quality so that there is no gap at the most crucial moment.
Snap float
This is not the most fundamental component in the snap. You can choose any float, but at the same time only the one that will definitely "work" - give signals about the beginning of the bite. In addition, it is very important that it is clearly visible in the water. To choose the most suitable float, the fisherman must first take into account its carrying capacity. It should correspond to both the depth of the reservoir and the presence of a current in it. The color and shape of the float can be any. At the same time, he should not hang on the surface: his immersion under water for ten or fifteen centimeters is considered ideal.
Sinker
The winter fishing rod has a basic element and a reserve. If the tackle is made delicate and thin, then the number of weights increases. Their number depends not only on the place of fishing and the current, but also on the type of prey, the skill of the fisherman.
According to many winters, the best option is centered sinkers whose appearance resembles somewhat elongated balls. It is this form that protects the rigging from being sided at the moment of its immersion. Hooks are also selected depending on the prey. For bream and scavenger, for example, durable No. 13 or 14 is suitable.
Bream equipment
This fish is usually caught immediately on the first ice. In the “Deaf Winter”, from the second half of January until the end of February, fishing it is a thankless task, as severe frosts and lack of oxygen in the water reduce the activity of this ice-dweller. A winter fishing rod for a bream must meet the following requirements. Since this fish leads mainly a bottom lifestyle and therefore eats at a depth, about twenty to forty meters of the main fishing line will be needed in a snap. For successful fishing you will also need a reliable fishing rod of medium length and the same rigidity. A monofilament with a cross section of 0.08 mm and a length of five to ten centimeters can serve as a leash. The float on the fishing line can be fixed in two ways: both motionless and sliding. The load in the gear should be such that the bite pointer slowly submerges in water until the load reaches the bottom. If the weight is too large and the float drowns quickly, fishing is unlikely to succeed. Prey, taking the bait, always feels its excess weight and therefore can break.

Roach equipment
It is not much different from bream. A winter roach fishing rod should also have lightweight and sensitive equipment. It should be equipped with the most elastic nod of thirty or forty centimeters. For the main fishing line in the roach gear, monofilament with a cross section of 0.08 to 0.12 mm is used. In this case, the float in the winter fishing rod should be light and relatively short in order to instantly respond to the slightest movement transmitted from the bait. Very often, in the roach snap, two hooks are used, which are located on symmetrical leashes. Often used and a combination of hook and mormyshki, like a bream. The most common bait for roach is considered to be bloodworms, although many people like to experiment with some plant lures, such as dough, pearl barley or corn.
