Theater History
The Academic Theater of Musical Comedy (Yekaterinburg) was founded in 1933. The city leadership decided to create it. It considered that the residents (most of whom were workers) needed another theater, one that was fun and musical. The city of Sverdlovsk (Yekaterinburg) was the capital of the vast Ural region, which included several areas: Tyumen, Perm, Chelyabinsk and Sverdvsk. Here, factories were created at a rapid pace, the population was constantly arriving. People who worked hard and hard needed good rest and fun. The operetta theater was ideally suited for such a purpose. The director of the Yekaterinburg Musical Committee was appointed a young dramatic actor Leonid Lukker.

The troupe was assembled from young artists. The theater chose freedom from stamps as its creed. Directors, artists, choreographers, stage designers from Moscow and St. Petersburg collaborated with the Yekaterinburg musical comedy. Soloists were engaged from the Leningrad Theater of Musical Comedy. Some artists remained in Yekaterinburg for permanent residence.
At that time, there was no permanent troupe in the theater; guest actors and traveling groups performed here.
The first performance of the new theater was an operetta called `` Rose-Marie. '' It was written by American authors R. Freemle and G. Stotgardt. It was first staged on Broadway in 1924. The premiere of the operetta "Rose-Marie" in Sverdlovsk took place on July 8, 1933. This date is considered to be the birthday of the Musical Comedy Theater.
