Nizhny Tagil Drama Theater: from a factory creative union to professionals

The Nizhny Tagil Drama Theater named after D. Mamin-Sibiryak is known throughout the Sverdlovsk region. Not only adults and young residents of the city come here, but also guests of Nizhny Tagil. Nizhny Tagil Drama Theater: History

More employees of the Demidov factories thought about the opening of their theater. It was an amateur club, opened in 1862. It was he who became the forerunner of the Drama Theater in Nizhny Tagil. This institution has been working for 60 years. Then he was replaced by a troupe called the Ensemble, which performed dramatic works, as well as the Narcompros Theater. They appeared already in the 20s of the 20th century. And they were created only thanks to the enthusiasm of the actors.

Officially, the State Theater in the city appeared only in 1946. On May 8, the production of Optimistic Tragedy opened its doors. And the repertoire included only the most famous, popular and best productions for that time:

In 1955, the construction of a building for the theater was completed on Theater Square. And the troupe moved there. The first few decades, the Nizhny Tagil Drama Theater was the birthplace of such professionals as:

In 1963, it was decided to name the Nizhny Tagil Drama Theater after the famous writer D. Mamin-Sibiryak. Indeed, on stage were put his most relevant and best works:

From 2010 to this day, the artistic director of the theater is Igor Bulygin.

Theater building

The building in which the theater is located today was built back in the 50s of the 20th century. The project architect was A. Tarasenko. The main feature of the building is the presence of a portico and sculptures on the pediment. This composition has its own meaning. She personifies the union of science, labor and art.

Inside, everything is finished with Ural granite and marble. And on the second floor, in the lobby, are portraits of famous playwrights. All of them are surrounded by their most famous heroes.

Initially, the hall had 800 seats. However, after numerous reconstructions, only 530 seats remained.

The building for the Nizhny Tagil Drama Theater was built in the shortest possible time. The prisoners from Tagillag participated in this process. In 2015, the building was last renovated. At the same time equipped with the most modern equipment.
