Despite the importance of BIOS, for the average user, this part of the computer, as a rule, remains invisible. The default settings allow you to use your computer without ever looking at them. Ignorance usually lasts until the first breakdown or until the moment when the user wants to “disperse” his hardware. In this article, we will consider how to
reset the BIOS and return the settings to the standard ones without resorting to the help of service centers.
If the computer starts up, you can solve the problems without resorting to disassembling the system unit. When starting the computer, carefully monitor the bottom of the screen: there should appear information with the necessary commands and how to execute them (1-2 lines). In order to reset the BIOS, you will first need to find a key on this panel, when you click on it, the BIOS window will open. Sometimes this is a Del key, but it can be different, it all depends on the version.
After you enter the BIOS control panel, try not to change anything in the settings, especially since they will still be reset. We are interested in the bottom information line outside the borders. There, the control in BIOS is described in detail (only the keyboard is used). Find there an item explaining
how to reset the BIOS and press the corresponding key. Confirm the command (type “Y” in the box and then press “Enter”) and restart the computer. Everything - the problem is solved.
If after changing the BIOS settings the computer does not start at all, you will have to reset the settings manually. First, gently remove the cover from the computer. Then find the documentation for the motherboard - without it it will be difficult, especially if you do not have experience in such actions. Find the image of the board in the instructions and look at the location of the key elements on them. Your goal is a BIOS battery. After you find it in the picture, proceed with the search on the board. See the documentation for instructions on how to remove the battery. The battery should be removed for 20-30 seconds, and then returned to its place.
If there are problems after this procedure (time is reset, some programs constantly “forget” the settings), then it makes sense to replace the battery, because it most likely has exhausted its life (2-3 years). By replacing the battery, you will save yourself from questions about how to reset the bios, because it will automatically reset to factory settings.
To be sure, wait half a minute before inserting a new battery.
Remember that setting up a computer using BIOS, you fully take responsibility. This method requires some knowledge, and changing something only on the advice of friends is not worth it - it can go sideways. Sometimes, after unsuccessful experiments with "optimization", the user has no choice but to reset the BIOS. For example, a user may accidentally remove the thermal protection of the processor and it will simply burn out at the first significant overheating - you can’t get by with just one reset. In other words, be careful and don’t tune what you don’t have a clue about.
