Today, the design of the premises is paid much more attention than several decades ago. At the same time, not only the appearance of the rooms, the style of decoration and decoration of the rooms is thought out, but also the interior is carefully selected. And a big role is played by a modern sofa. There are so many of its species and they are so different that you can easily get confused. Direct modern sofas, in retro style, babies - they all serve one purpose: to make your life comfortable. We will try to highlight in the article all the options for this piece of furniture for those people who are faced with the choice of model.
Classification
The sofa plays a leading role in the modern interior. It is based on his choice that the rest of the details are selected. To choose the right sofa for your room, you need to study all the options for the models, taking into account the features of your room, the size of the room and purpose. Modern options can be classified into four categories:
- Depending on which folding mechanism is used in the structure.
- The features of form and design are taken into account.
- There are different styles, based on the purpose of the room.
- Consider the size of the sofa and the number of people who can easily fit on it.
We consider each category separately so that the user can well imagine the whole variety of types and models.
Feature of forms
In terms of differences in forms, sofas can be:
- angular;
- straight;
- insular.
The most famous and familiar to us since Soviet times are straight sofas. Modern methods of sheathing and design of such options do not make them very different from those models that we have long known. Another view, and no less familiar, is mainly used for furnishing a living room. These are modern corner sofas, or "corners", as they are popularly called. Very comfortable type, but not suitable for every room. Their main advantage is the saving of space with a sufficiently large capacity. And the last, more modern type is island sofas. Such models do not put against the wall, they need a lot of free space, and the design of the room should correspond, otherwise the sofa will look ridiculous.
What are we looking for?
From which room we are looking for a sofa, its model and style depend. So, for example, a modern
sofa in the living room may look different than for a children's room or office. You must understand that the models are very different, and before you buy one of them, study all possible options. The developers of the lineup delimit models into those that can stand:
- in the office;
- in the hall;
- in the living room;
- in the kitchen;
- in the nursery.
There are, of course, universal options that can be delivered both in the office and in the hallway of the house, but basically all models are clearly designed in accordance with the purpose. Bright colors of children's sofas are difficult to confuse with the official style of leather or leatherette of an office model. Also, models for functional rooms are sheathed with material that is easier to clean. So this point also cannot be ignored.
Dimensions
A modern sofa is available in different sizes, and here it is up to you which model to choose. Considering the peculiarity of your premises, choose the most comfortable size. The sofa should not take up too much space and interfere, but too small an option will not bring any benefit. Therefore, carefully consider all the nuances before buying. If in Soviet times there were some standards in size, now there is no restriction on the length or width of models. Each manufacturer produces such options for sofas that he considers necessary. All that can be said for this category is that there are small sofas designed for two or three people, and there are large ones for five or more people. In this case, the double model can have a length of 1.4 meters, and maybe 1.8 meters. So take roulette, imagination and go!
And now we would like to dwell in more detail on some models of sofas that use different folding mechanisms. If everything is clear with the purpose, shape and size, then with the mechanisms everything is different. Here you need to clearly understand how your option will be dealt with so as not to get into trouble. In the opposite case, you may find yourself in a situation where your sofa understands, resting against the wall, or it simply can not be dismantled for lack of space. Of course, in the store you can decompose and see the whole process, but ordering via the Internet, you can make a big mistake. We present you the main types of mechanisms.
Models “book”, “eurobook”, “classic sofa”, “cougar”
Even a simple sofa, the contemporary style of which is correctly chosen, will become an adornment of any room. These four models are considered classic and the simplest.
- "Book". Suitable for both living room and bedroom. Dimensions allow you to use it as a bed. It unfolds very simply, by raising the front part to a sound that resembles a click, and then lowering it to the very bottom. In order for the sofa to stand unfolded close to the wall, you need to move it a bit.
- Eurobook. Great for older people, as it easily decomposes. Pulling the front part towards ourselves, we roll it forward. After that, we simply lower the back to an empty place.
- "Classic sofa." This model resembles the previous one. Only in this case, not the back is displayed, but the seat itself. The advantage is the presence in the sofa of a large drawer for storing things.
- Puma. The basis for the model was the "Eurobook" option. The difference is that the front of the sofa does not roll out, but extends. After that, the opened void is covered by the back.

Changing over the years and undergoing modifications, the sofa acquires a modern design. All new and new models are presented to customers. The following options are considered newer.
Models "dolphin", "roll-out", "clamshell", "accordion"
- "Dolphin". The name of the model came from what the folding procedure looks like. It resembles a dolphin diving into the water. Pulling one part of the sofa by the loop, we pull it out to the level with the main part. After that, taking another loop on the corresponding part, we extend the hidden part of the seat and get a large and comfortable sofa.
- "Rollout". Already by the name it is clear that the front part is rolling forward. It resembles the “classic sofa” model, but in this model the upper part is displayed in the opposite direction.
- "Cot". The model resembles a standard folding bed, familiar to us from Soviet times. By removing the pillows, you simply lay the model forward, while taking into account that you will sleep perpendicular to the wall. For such a sofa you need enough space for folding.
- "Accordion". Combines the “roll-out” and “folding” models. In this case, taking a loop in your hands, you simultaneously roll out and lay out the sleeping part of the sofa, which resembles playing the accordion.
Pantograph, click-gag, tick-tock, lit models
Already by name, it can be assumed that these mechanisms appeared the very latest. And although their names are unfamiliar to us, the principle of action has been known for a long time.
- "Click-gag." A modern sofa that has several options for intermediate positions: sitting, half-sitting, reclining, lying down. The folding procedure is simple. It is necessary to tilt the sofa back, and only the front part to return back.
- "Pantograph". It resembles the “eurobook” option, but in this case the model does not use a roller mechanism, and the front part does not touch the floor after unfolding. This creates a feeling of lightness.
- Tick-tock. The model is a mixture of dolphin and roll-out models. Unfolding, respectively, only the front part, comparing with the main seat, with the use of a retractable mechanism, and not folding.
- "Lit." It is used most often for children, as the model turns into a single bed due to the folding armrests. In this case, it is not possible to decompose it completely by making a semi-sitting version.
Reviews
The choice of model depends entirely on the taste and preference of the buyer. Having studied a lot of reviews, we came to the conclusion that all options are original and have their own advantages. Much of the choice depends on the reliability of the manufacturer. Often people complain that during use, mechanisms break down, the frame cracks, and the skin breaks. Having bought a cheap sofa, it is difficult to count on its long-term service. Therefore, before making a choice, think about it, weigh the pros and cons, and only then make the final decision.
