The usual hinged shelf - it would seem that it could be more banal and simpler? Recently, however, this simplest type of room furniture is undergoing a real revival. At design exhibitions of recent years, a large number of various hinged shelves have been presented, demonstrating that they can be not only convenient and functional interior items, but also bright design objects.
Hinged shelves - from classic to avant-garde - have become very popular due to the fact that they do not take up much space, they are very convenient in small rooms. With a good layout, they can accommodate a large number of different objects and books, without cluttering up the space. One of the advantages of shelves is their openness, which allows you to keep the necessary items and books in an easy access area. In every room of the apartment, from the bathroom, kitchen, hallway to the living room and cabinet for shelves there is a worthy place.
Hinged shelves are also good because they can be easily made with your own hands. Moreover, they can be made in any style and decorate interiors from classic to avant-garde. Glass, metal or wooden surfaces that serve as shelves are mounted on the console of various types and configurations. Classic shelves are mounted on a console made of wood, forged metal or gypsum stucco. For modern avant-garde shelves, in addition to wood and glass, plastic, acrylic, etc. are used.
The invisible bookshelves created by Mauro Canfori are thin metal consoles going up and shelves painted the color of the walls. When they are filled with books, an amazing effect is obtained: it seems that the books just hang on the wall. From small modules, you can lay out any geometric shapes, from the simplest horizontal and vertical lines to complex shapes and even letters.
French designers invented hinged shelves made in the form of various sculptural forms, for example, tree branches, animal faces or human faces, which can also be performed independently. A do-it-yourself hanging shelf, made in the form of an original art object, is a wonderful field for experiments, because the objects placed on it finish the painting in a peculiar way, and depending on how and what objects stand on the sculptural shelf, there will be her appearance and “mood” change. Sculptural shelves are made of wooden boards, which are connected depending on the created sketch. If it is a tree branch, then part of the boards are connected in the form of a broken trunk, and shorter-sized boards, which serve as book clamps, are attached vertically and at an angle in different directions, depicting branches.
A shelf in the form of a human face is also created according to a specific sketch, first drawn on paper. Of course, this should be an image in a cubist manner, and here opens up full scope for imagination. It should only be remembered that the resulting thing should be not only decorative, but also functional, and the books, objects or plants standing on it should complement it, and not spoil it. Instead of a human face, you can make the face of an animal, for example, a cat or a dog. Boards are assembled with glue and screws in the corners, previously sawn at a certain angle. Then they are painted with bright acrylic paint and covered with a layer of protective varnish.
It is very simple to install hinged shelves in a niche made in the wall. Shelves in a large niche are better mounted at different levels with the help of a special hidden fastening. Shelves in a niche for light decorative items are made of glass, fixing them with the help of special fasteners, which are purchased in hardware stores. In the niche itself, it is desirable to install a hidden light source, or stretch an LED strip for illumination.
