Go to the paragraph settings
Line spacing in Word can be changed in several ways. In this article we will consider only three. But before you go directly to the instructions on how to change the line spacing in Word, it’s worth telling where exactly these settings are.
To do this, we need to get to the "Paragraph" settings. It is there that the necessary parameters will change:
- To get started, open the program itself. You can create a new document or open an existing one.
- Now go to the "Home" tab - in the toolbar, find the "Paragraph" area.
- You need to click on the small box with an arrow, which is located at the bottom right in the graph. This is the first way to get to the “Paragraph” settings.
The second method may seem easier to someone. To implement it, you need to click RMB in any area of the document - a menu will open. In it you need to select the line "Paragraph". By the way, in this way you can change the line spacing in Word 2007 and more, but for Word 2003 it will not work.
Go to "Style Management"
If you have Word 2003, then do not be afraid, and there is a way for you. Just now we will consider it. It practically does not differ from the previous one, the difference is only in the location of the necessary items:
- Having opened the program, pay attention not to the “Paragraph” column, but to “Styles” (it is located in the very right part of the window). In it, you will also need to click on the icon in the lower right corner.
- The field of how you do this will bring up a drop-down menu. In it you need to click on the "Manage styles" button. This button is located at the very bottom of the window - it is the third in a row.
- The window we need will open, but the tab will most likely not be what you need - go to the "Default" tab.

Set the default line spacing
So, following the instructions from the above methods, you will find yourself in almost the same settings. The window will have an area called "Interval". As you might guess, it is with her that we will continue to work. By the way, here is set not only the line spacing in the "Word" by default, but also the interval between paragraphs.
But first, pay attention to the drop-down list on the right. By expanding it, you can use, so to speak, templates. And set the interval according to them. If you need to more accurately adjust the gap between the lines, then you can enter a value in the field next to it. In the left part the interval between paragraphs is set.
After that, do not rush to click "OK" and apply the changes. The interval, of course, changes according to the selected values, but is not saved by default. To achieve this, click the button of the same name at the bottom of the window - a message will appear in which you should choose: "of all documents based on the Normsl template.
Change the line spacing in two clicks
Now it’s worth talking about how to change the distance between the lines quickly, without resorting to long and painstaking settings. It should be said right away that this method will not set default settings, it will only change the interval in the previously selected part of the text.
We will change the line spacing in Word 2007 release, and as for previous versions, it is not a fact that the method will work.
