Our article is different: in it, based on our own experience, we will explain in a simple and understandable language how to set up the Internet, which works not through a wire (in fact, there is nothing to configure there), but through radio waves. This is not about slow GPRS and EDGE, but about the real CDMA 3G. There is nothing complicated in setting
up an Internet connection , as standard operating system tools are used for this. Perhaps this is where we start.
Obviously, before setting up the Internet, you must connect a CDMA modem to the USB port of a computer or laptop and install the appropriate driver for the model. After that, it is necessary to “indicate” to the operating system in which mode the device will operate - despite all the “intelligence” of modern software, it is not yet possible to predict user intentions.
To
configure the Internet, click the "Start" button, open the "Control Panel" and launch "Network Connections". On the left side of the window there is a link to create a new connection - we need it. After the first click on the “Next” button, an informative wizard window opens, we read and follow. It offers a choice of 4 points. We need the first one, which is called “Connect to the Internet”. In the next window, you must select the manual mode. Even if it’s possible to use a vendor list, dialing into Microsoft for information will take much longer than manually entering a set of parameters.
For most CDMA wireless modems , including EDGE and GPRS modes for mobile operators, you must select the first item - “Through a normal modem”. The authors of some articles believe that such a connection is necessary only for old slow Dial-Up modems working through a wired telephone line. It's a delusion. Modern wireless carriers also use dialing. For those who consider this type of access obsolete, you can specify the characteristics of CDMA Rev.B, according to which the speed reaches an impressive 14 megabits, without having to “tie” the computer with a wire to the provider.
We indicate any name - it will not affect performance. But the phone number is the first key parameter. Without knowing it, setting up the Internet will not work. He must be informed by the selected CDMA operator when concluding a contract (if required) for providing access to the
global network. On the next screen, you need to enter the password and name - they are reported along with the number. For convenience, you can put a shortcut on the main screen of the system. Double-click on it, then click on the “Call” button, and you can start working on the Internet.
As you can see, creating a connection for a CDMA modem in Windows is quite simple. The main thing is to install the driver, conclude an agreement with the provider-operator and launch the Network Setup Wizard.
