There are times when you need to change the file creation date. Most often this applies to photo files. Digital cameras record the time and date of shooting, and when transferring pictures to a computer, these parameters are saved as part of the information that accompanies the image. However, this information is not always accurate. For example, if certain photographs were taken in a different time zone, then the time recorded for them can be very different from what we live on. In addition, the settings for the number and time that are set in the camera may not be accurate. And if the photos were taken on film, printed, and then scanned, then the date of the scan will automatically be stamped with the scan date. All of these inconsistencies can be easily fixed. Using the standard functions of the operating system, this operation is not always possible to perform, since in "Windows Explorer" in most cases you can only change the date of change. To edit the file properties, it is best to use the file manager, in which the set of functions is expanded.
Therefore, if you do not know how to change the file creation date, try the following: download to the computer and install the Total Commander program. This is easy, you just need to follow the advice of the installation wizard. When you open the program, in its main window you will see two panels that are similar in structure to Windows Explorer. Next, find the file or folder whose properties you would like to change, then click on the top "Files" menu, in which select the "Attributes" option. In the window that opens, find “Change Attributes”, after which you need to go to the middle block and put a check mark in front of the line “Change date / time”.
The next step, how to change the file creation date, will be to delete the contents in the "Date" field and enter your value. If you need to insert today's number, you should click the "Current" button, and then fix the value that appears on any desired date. You can also set the required period using the calendar, while opening it in a separate window is not necessary at all, you just need to click the button where the two arrows are shown. You will see a list where you can choose the date that suits you.
After changing the file creation date was successful, you need to finish editing and press "OK" or press Enter. The window will close. To check if the changes are saved, open the file and view its properties. You don’t even have to open it, just hover over it and right-click. In the menu that appears, find “Properties” and open them: you will see that the date settings are fixed.
Using Total Commander, you can either change the file creation date or make other settings. But maybe in some photos you might want to change the shooting date. To do this, it is not necessary to open the above program, since you can do the following: in the usual way, open the folder where the pictures are located, the shooting period of which you want to change. Next, hover over the desired photo and click on it with the mouse once. And now look at the very bottom of the window in which the list of graphic files opens: there is a separate line in which a small image of the picture you indicated is displayed, as well as the name and format of the file. Also there is a point "Date of shooting", next to which is a number. Click on it with the mouse, and a calendar will appear on the screen, with which you can choose the period that you need. After that, click "Save." That's all, the shooting date has been changed. However, remember that the file creation date in this case will remain unchanged, and it will only be possible to fix it in Total Commander.
If you want to enter more detailed information about the photo, then you need to enter the “Properties” and select the “Details” tab at the very top. There you will see a list of properties. The values of some of them may already be put down automatically, but where nothing is put down, you can make your own marks, for example, indicate the author of the shot, add a comment to the picture, indicate the model of the camera, etc. Upon completion of all changes, click OK. All data is saved.
