The non - printable characters used in various text editors provide significant assistance in formatting text. However, often even experienced PC users are not aware of their existence. There are frequent cases when the inclusion of the display mode of non-printable icons terrifies the user, as he thinks that all of them will now be displayed when printing a document. However, this is not so, and there is absolutely no need to be afraid, because it is for this reason that this category of symbols was called “non-printable”.

As an example, consider non-printable characters in Word, as in the most popular text editor at the moment. It should be noted that the algorithm for using these characters is the same for all common text programs. Using this important tool, it will be easy to format any document, since the process of its preparation will be carried out simply and quickly. This is especially important if the text is obtained as a result of scanning, taken from the Internet or another text editor.
Getting started, enable the mode in which non-printable characters are displayed. Word allows you to enable this feature using a special item located in the "Standard" panel. In this case, all empty spaces in the document will practically disappear, since all of them will now be filled with various dots, arrows and figures. Each such sign is responsible for a specific action. For example, a space is marked with a dot, pressing the Tab key will cause an arrow to appear, and if you go to a new line using the Enter key, the end of paragraph symbol will appear.
It is also very important to know and use such non-printable characters as “page break” and “section break”. The first of these is important in two main cases. If the scanned text is formatted, then each page will be separated from the other and have its own formatting. In order to reduce all of them to a single look, you will need to manually delete this non-printable character located at the bottom of each page.
Another common situation when it is necessary to use this symbol is the creation of documents of complex structure with sections and subparagraphs. In such cases, in order for each of them to be placed on a new line, you need to use the "line break", which is set using the "insert" menu or the keyboard shortcut "Cntrl + Enter". If changes are made to the document then its structure will remain untouched, since non-printable characters will be installed in the right places. Thus, the text will not be shifted, and each important section or subitem will continue to start on a new line.
"Section break" allows you to arrange paper with different orientations in one document. This means that one page of the document may have a portrait orientation, and the next immediately after it - landscape. This, of course, is very convenient if you need to enter wide tables or diagrams into the text.
In order to master non-printable characters, you need only a little practice, since there is nothing complicated in them. However, to learn how to use them is very important, since it allows you to save time and carry out the formatting procedure better and faster.
