Any owner of a smartphone or tablet in most cases wants to use absolutely all of their capabilities, including connecting to Internet access. In this regard, we have to decide the question of how to connect the tablet to WiFi at home or to connect to open or protected networks. To do this, you can use several basic options, which will be considered.
How to connect your tablet to WiFi: basic ways
It is no secret to anyone that absolutely all modern mobile devices have built-in modules that allow you to connect to wireless networks.
If we consider the question of how to connect the tablet to WiFi, for most devices you can apply four main methods:
- Connection through a router (router).
- Making a connection through a distributing laptop or computer.
- Using an external modem.
- Communication through the services of a mobile operator.
How to connect the tablet to a WiFi router?
Connecting to wireless networks using a router looks the easiest. However, first you need to check the router settings regarding automatic network configuration.
To do this, enter the router’s web interface by entering the combination 192.168.0.1 (or 1.1 for some router models) in the address bar of any Internet browser. Then go to the DHCP configuration section. By default, automatic configuration is enabled, but you never know what could be. Here, the location of the section or tab may differ depending on the manufacturer of the router. On the desired tab, you just need to enable DHCP activation. In this case, you do not have to manually configure the tablet, the device will be assigned an IP address automatically.
Next, go to the tablet’s settings and activate the Wi-Fi connection by dragging the slider to the on position. A few seconds after activation, the built-in module detects all wireless networks in range, after which it remains only to select the desired connection and, if necessary, enter the security key.
In another case, when the configuration needs to be done manually (with the router’s configuration item disabled), you should use the IP address setting in the range from 192.168.1.2 to 1.254 (or from 0.2 to 0.254 - it all depends on what address the router originally uses for signal distribution).
For a DNS server, you can use either four eights, or two eights and two fours. The subnet mask is standard - four values 255 and zero at the end.
Connection via laptop
Now let's see how to connect the tablet to WiFi via a laptop. In this case, you first need to configure the laptop so that it turns into a distribution device. Using Windows, of course, this can be done, but for many users entering the configuration of network commands in the corresponding console causes legitimate difficulties. Therefore, it is better to use the installation of free automated utilities like Connectify or Virtual Router.
From the settings you will have to use just entering your network name and access password. To connect to a newly created network, the same technique is used that was given to create a connection session through standard routers.
Establishing a connection using a 3G modem
To figure out how to connect the tablet to WiFi in this way, you will first have to purchase a modem compatible with the device and a special OTG cable through which any peripheral devices can be connected to the mobile device. Note that this method is only suitable for Android devices (unfortunately, apple devices do not support this technology).
Now you should do the setup. To set the necessary parameters, we enter the data transfer section located in the main settings menu, after which we move the slider of the mobile traffic switch to the on position. Then we use additional parameters (the line “More”), select the mobile network and APN access point. Now it remains to add it and enter the parameters received from the provider.
If you deal with how to connect a tablet (WiFi on ByFly, for example), setting the settings is very similar to the method of establishing a connection via a 3G modem. Only in this case, you need to pay attention to the moment that you must first establish a connection for the Wi-Fi module manually. The requested network may be hidden, so you need to use the SSID value in the parameters, select the type of security and only then connect to the network.
Using the services of mobile operators
Finally, there is another way to solve the problem of how to connect the tablet to WiFi. Many modern devices support the installation of SIM-cards, as on ordinary smartphones, with reference to the operator that provides communication services.
Depending on the package, 3G or 4G networks are accessed. Only in this case, the difference is that the operator can get the standard settings for accessing the Internet or apply direct access by activating the data transfer module on a mobile device (for example, for 3G + networks). There is nothing to configure here. Connection will be made automatically. But here it is necessary to pay attention to the provided traffic limit, since if it is exceeded, the operator may incur an additional fee.
Instead of a total
As can be seen from the foregoing, none of the listed methods of difficulties in activating the connection should cause. The only exception is the setting of parameters using Windows-based systems, but this technique has not been specifically considered, since the use of special automated utilities looks in this respect much simpler and more attractive for the average user. In the matter of preference for the chosen method, it all depends on the situation. But today, routers are available in almost every cafe, so it’s easiest to activate a connection by launching the built-in Wi-Fi module directly on the tablet. If communication is required all the time, you will have to choose a connection through the operator (if the installation of a SIM card is supported) or give preference to an external modem, but this is a monetary expense.
