Theater History
Komissarzhevskaya Theater (St. Petersburg), whose building photo is presented in this section of the article, opened in 1942 - during the siege of Leningrad. In 1944, the theater received the name "Leningrad Drama". After the end of the war, with the onset of peacetime, the troupe changed tasks, which entailed changes in the repertoire. Now its basis was not military and patriotic works, but classical plays by I. Turgenev, A. Ostrovsky, A. Chekhov.
Komissarzhevskaya Theater (St. Petersburg) - such a name appeared on the poster in 1959. On the occasion of the assignment of this name, the play "Children of the Sun" was staged. It is dedicated to the great actress V. Komissarzhevskaya, whose name has been the theater ever since.
In the 60s, a new director came to the theater - Ruben Agamirzyan. He assembled a new troupe of actors of several generations. He regularly replenished the team with young talents, inviting his students from LGITMiK and the Theater Academy into it. The repertoire was also updated. It included domestic dramatic plays. The leadership of the theater Ruben Agamirzyan did not leave until his death.
When he died in 1992, his place was taken by the current artistic director Viktor Novikov, who enriched the theater with his own ideas.

Komissarzhevskaya Theater (St. Petersburg) today lives under the strict guidance of Viktor Abramovich Novikov. He was born in 1943 in the Saratov region. After graduation, he worked as a nurse in a clinical hospital. In 1961 he entered the LGITMiK. Having completed his studies, he worked as a literary editor at a plant of industrial enterprises.
Viktor Abramovich came to the Komissarzhevskaya Theater in 1987. At first he was an assistant to the chief director. Then he transferred to the post of deputy. Director of Repertoire and Drama. V. Novikov became the artistic director in 1992.
In 1999, Viktor Abramovich was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia. V. Novikov is famous for the fact that in Soviet times, when censorship existed, he managed to stage forbidden plays on the stage of his theater. Thanks to him, the theater community recognized such playwrights as Grigory Gorin, I. Druce, M. Shatrov. The best writers of our country first of all gave their works for productions to V. Novikov. He always had an artistic flair and was able to wake up the imagination of the directors.
In addition, Vladimir Abramovich knows how to solve organizational issues, he is a leader by nature, always up to date with all the changes and innovations. He has a subtle understanding of human psychology and the ability to master the situation. Novikov is not only a talented leader, but also just a wonderful person who knows how to keep friendship, is able to forgive and love, is always ready to help in difficult times, support in time, and not only in words but in deeds. His close friends were Joseph Brodsky and Mikhail Baryshnikov. V. Novikov is devoted to his work, a theater in which he serves and gives all his strength and his whole soul to the development of his brainchild.
Thanks to the competent leadership of Vladimir Abramovich, the Komissarzhevskaya Theater has been one of the most visited and beloved in the cultural capital for many years. Troupe performances are always of interest. Performances are held with unchanged full houses.
