Work on the creation of the TGM6A diesel locomotive began in the 60s of the last century at the plant in Lyudinovo. Four-axle vehicles were designed for the use of various diesel power units and towing masses. When developing the locomotive, well-proven components and parts from the versions of the TEZ and TGMZ were used. The first copy came out in 1966, was equipped with a diesel power unit 6D-70. Mass production

TGM-5 locomotives were produced as prototypes for MPS, TGM6 models were mass-produced from 1969 to 1973. The experimental modification of the TGM6A diesel locomotive was made in 1970. This machine is a modernized version of its predecessor, has an increased length along the axles of the coupling mechanisms up to 14.3 meters, redesigned placement of equipment, a device for unloading dumpcars. These locomotives went into a series in 1975, production continued until 1985.

The head designer V. Logunov led the development and design. In addition, the preparation of technical documentation was carried out with the participation of engineers and leading experts of the iron and steel works, for which it was planned to produce the indicated machines.

The cab of a bonnet-type locomotive is placed on a frame body, equipped with rubber gaskets, and fixed on bolts. Also on this site there is a pair of longitudinal beams of the spinal configuration. Two pivots are welded at the bottom of the frame, which serve to transform the traction and braking forces on the body from the bogies. As automatic couplings, models of the Ural Car-Building Plant are used. Compared with analogues of the CA-3 type, they guarantee the best adhesion parameter, and also fit well when passing curves of a small radius in the plan and gauge profile.

The emphasis for the frame is a pair of biaxial trolleys that interact with the body using side supports. The bodies of the trolleys are welded type, the sidewalls are aggregated with each other by means of pivot and end beams. The role of the stops is played by balancers in the form of coil springs. These elements, in turn, rely on leaf springs and special pendants according to the type of TEZ modifications. Balancers lie on the jaw axle boxes with roller bearings. The diameter of the wheels is 1050 millimeters in a circle. Brake pads work on all pairs one-way. Compressed air masses are supplied to the brake cylinders through an air distributor, which is controlled by the driver’s crane or by an auxiliary brake system.

The TGM6A diesel locomotive is equipped with a four-stroke V-shaped 3A-6D49 supercharged diesel engine. Cylinders in diameter are 26 centimeters. Other features of the power unit:

  • movement of the main connecting rod - 260 mm;
  • trailed analogue travel - 257.5 mm;
  • rated power indicator - 1200 “horses”;
  • minimum shaft speed in idle - 400 rpm;
  • estimated fuel consumption - 150 g (el.h.sch);
  • start type - starter;
  • cooling - a dual-circuit fluid system;
  • motor weight - 9.6 tons

With wheel pairs, the engine aggregates using a unified gear, driveshafts, two-stage gearboxes. The mechanism of this unit was developed by specialists of the Kaluga Machine Plant. Shafts and hydraulic gears are connected by an elastic coupling with rubber tips. The hydraulic transmission includes a pair of TP-1000M transformers, a fluid coupling, a serial equipment cooling mechanism. The switching of modes is carried out on the machine using hydraulics.

Features

The hydraulic transmission of the shunting diesel locomotive TGM6A has the following parameters:

  • working numbers of gears between hydraulic coupling and diesel shafts - 22/60;
  • between the transformer and the intermediate element - 58/35;
  • next to shafts of the incremental and output type (shunting mode) - 73/24, 58/39 (train range);
  • axial bevel gears with a cylindrical gear and a total working number of 4.24;
  • the size of the fan wheel of the refrigeration unit is 140 cm;
  • number of blades - 8;
  • the nominal operating mode of the hydraulic drive is 1350 rpm.

A V-shaped compressor with two cylinders and a pair of working stages is mounted on the locomotive under consideration. An analogue can also be installed with three high-pressure cylinders and as many low-pressure ones. The capacity of the units is 3.5 or 5.25 cubic meters / min. The drive of the specified equipment is hydrodynamic. The electric circuit of the TGM6A diesel locomotive uses a KG DC generator with a power of 5 kW and a voltage of 75 V. It is driven by a diesel engine through a gearbox and serves to charge the batteries and power the control circuits.

Modifications

The shunting factory locomotive TGM6A No. 1340 has several advanced versions. The locomotive TGM-6V began to be produced in 1989. The upgraded version has an increased efficiency parameter, as well as a 25% increased resource before overhaul. Such features are due to the use of a modernized power unit having a rotational speed in the range of 350-950 rpm. In addition, an advanced hydraulic transmission with an integrated compressor clutch has been introduced.

Among other differences from its predecessor, there is a change in the compressor drive, which is put into operation from a fluid coupling of variable filling. She is responsible for automatically turning the unit on and off, depending on the pressure level in the main tanks. The pipe under the compressor is bolted to the four elements. After alignment, the indicated assembly is fastened by welding and pins.

Model TGM6D

Another modification of the TGM6A shunting locomotive is equipped with a running gear, which includes a pair of biaxial jawless carts in its design. This configuration provides good aerodynamics and the passage of curves of a particularly small radius. Axle gearboxes are connected via cardan shafts and an output hydraulic transmission shaft.

The brakes are equipped with a pneumatic direct-acting system, the pressing of the pads is manifested bilaterally. For the reliability of the unit meets the unit for drying compressed air. The compressor design is a two-stage unit with a hydrodynamic mechanism. The parking brake is a mechanical type.

The body part of the engine room is equipped with double-wing doors, hatches and removable roof parts. These elements provide easy access for maintenance and repair of the TGM6A diesel locomotive in an improved version (TGM6D). The driver’s workplace is organized taking into account increased sanitary requirements, including noise and vibration. Additional security is provided by the vigilance system.
