How to add a font

In this article I would like to tell how to add a new font to your computer. I will say right away that it is very simple. But, like most “things” in Windows, there are tricks. The emphasis will be on them. Various installation methods will also be discussed.

So, let's begin. Perhaps you are thinking: “How to add a font to Photoshop?” This is not a valid question. Since it needs to be added not to some program, for example, Photoshop, Office and others, but to the operating system. By installing a new set, it will automatically be in all programs that use the text panel.

How to add a font: an easy way.

This method is used by almost 100% of users who are generally able to install a new set of text styles.

We go to the system drive. In most cases, this is drive C. We move to the Windows folder. After that we find the Fonts directory there. We go into it. Now you are in the right folder.

Now we need to find those new files that you want to install. Open the Fonts folder. Select all the files, or just some that you want to install. Next, copy or cut them to the clipboard .

This can be done by pressing the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + C” or “Ctrl + X”. If it’s so difficult for you, then you can do it differently. After the necessary files have been selected, right-click with the mouse, and select copy / cut in the menu that appears.

Next, open the window where we are in the Fonts folder, and paste the contents of the buffer. This can be done using the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + V”. Or using the right-click menu. Now click on the "insert" item.

You will begin the installation. If you already have some kits, the installation wizard will ask you whether to replace them or not.

How to add a font: another way.

This method was in the Windows XP operating system, but in 7 it is already gone. You could go into the Fonts folder and click on add / download a new palette, and then specify their location.

What is this method good for? The files were not copied to the system folder, but were used by Windows from the place where they are stored.

For example, you want to set fonts to 2 GB. Using the first method, you will have 2 GB in the Fonts folder, and somewhere else where they are stored, or rather, where you copied them from. And using this method, you will not have additional loss of disk space.

How to add a font: a more meaningful way.

There is also another installation method. It can be called more meaningful and correct. To do this, we need a program that can display fonts. For example, “ACDSee Pro”. With this program you can view palettes, more precisely, how they look. What is it for? This is because many styles of the text are very similar, and they can hardly be distinguished. And you won’t even use many, because you won’t like them.

Using this program, you can choose exactly those fonts that you like and which do not repeat. Create two folders. The first will be all that you have, and the second will be the ones that you choose. Then install only those that you have selected.

It will be much better and more convenient in the future. Why? Read on.

How to add a font: possible consequences.

Perhaps you saw on the Internet, and already downloaded the whole assembly, which weighs several gigabytes. Well, for what? Installing a whole bunch of fonts will slow down the work of programs that use a text panel.

Due to the fact that when you activate the text writing panel, the program starts reading all the palettes that are registered in the operating system. The program will freeze at this point, because you will have a lot of data. And she will be in that state until the entire list is fully loaded. And so it will be every time.

You need it? Install only those fonts that you need and which you will use. No need to clog the system.
