History

During the civil war, the Balearic Islands needed military airfields. Therefore, such a concrete strip was laid in Ibiza. After the war, in 1949, a small building was built to receive ordinary passengers. But two years later, Franco forbade the use of Ibiza airport for peaceful purposes and left it for a military base. However, the growing demand for island resorts was stronger than the dictator's militaristic plans. Already in 1958, the airport again earned. Now it receives up to five million passengers a year. Moreover, this flow is extremely heterogeneous. In the season when charter flights land here, the services of a single terminal may be overloaded.
