Avocado is a very beautiful tropical tree of the laurel family. It brings delicious fruits, the hallmark of which is a large bone inside. Surely, many would like to have an avocado at home. You can try to grow it, however, there is one thing: the fruits in the room will not give an avocado. But even if the tree does not bear fruit, it will be able to please you with a riot of greenery, thereby decorating any room. There are two ways to grow an avocado at home: using a cuttings or from a seed. Weβll talk about how to grow avocados from seed. To begin with, buy a ripe fruit in the store, it is ripe, otherwise the seed simply will not sprout. You can safely eat the pulp, but over the bone you have to do a little magic. Rinse it well with water and wipe dry with a towel.
You do not yet know how to grow an avocado from a stone, and this is understandable, because this tree is a rare guest in our area. It's okay, a little patience, and you will succeed. Here the course of your actions can be divided. The avocado seed can be planted immediately in the ground, however, in this case, the sprouts will appear after 3-4 months. But to accelerate the process of germination, the seed should be left until the first sprouts appear in the water. This is done like this: at an angle of 1200, make three holes in the bone. They should be located in such a way that you can then stick matches or toothpicks into them, with the help of which the bone will be supported above the water. Pour water into the selected container and lower the stone into it. Make sure that it is immersed in water only with its blunt end, i.e. it is not necessary to lower the entire bone. That's all, now be patient and wait for it to grow. By the way, you can build any structure, the main thing here is that it firmly holds the bone. Usually, the roots appear after 3-4 weeks. Once they reach a height of 3 cm, you can safely proceed to their landing in open ground.
If you decide to plant an avocado from a stone, pay attention to the fact that sprouted roots should not be taken from the stone. In the future, it will serve as a kind of decoration for your tree. Prepare the ground and proceed with the transplant. Mix in equal parts raw peat, humus, coarse sand and garden soil. Avocados should be planted in a plastic pot, as clay will absorb moisture into its walls, but the avocado needs it most. Make sure that the bottom of the pot passes moisture well. Make more holes if necessary. Since growing avocados from seed is half the battle, you need to surround your βchildβ with care and love.
Despite the fact that the avocado is a tropical plant, it does not like direct sunlight, as burnt and fallen leaves may indicate. To protect the tree from such problems, put it on the north window or in a shaded place. In winter, when daylight becomes less, the plant will need additional lighting, which you can give with the help of special fitolamps sold in flower shops.
As mentioned above, avocados need moisture. Water it as the soil dries. Lack of water will cause the tree to drop leaves. If the room has dry air, spray the avocado with water and wipe the leaves with a cloth.
In spring and summer, avocados should be fertilized with special mineral (liquid) fertilizers for tropical plants. Pay attention to the fact that avocados tend to stretch up, so periodic it should be pinched.
