The theater was founded by such eminent people as the director of the Bolshoi Theater and Theater Joseph Lapitsky, conductors Anton Eichenwald and Isidor Zack. At the head of the ballet troupe then stood Evgenia Lopukhova - a member of the "Russian Seasons" in Paris.

The repertoire was assembled very quickly. It included operas and ballets of classical composers: J. Puccini, A. Borodin, N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, A. Adan, M.I. Glinka, P.I. Tchaikovsky, J. Rossini, L. Minkus, J. Verdi, A. Dargomyzhsky and others.

In addition, the repertoire included works written by Soviet composers. In particular, they were Tikhon Khrennikov, Sergey Slonimsky, Andrei Petrov and Andrei Eshpay.

During the war years, the Bolshoi Theater was evacuated to Samara from Moscow. For 3 years, the troupe of the capital presented 14 performances to the townspeople. On the Samara stage shone: Natalia Shpiller, Ivan Kozlovsky, Yu.F. Fire, Maxim Mikhailov, Olga Lepeshinskaya, Valeria Barsova, Mark Reisen and others. In his repertoire there are many musical tales.

The theater holds festivals on its stage every year. Thanks to them, residents and visitors of the city have the opportunity to get acquainted with the leading masters of the opera and ballet scene. One of the brightest and most significant festivals is held among classical ballet dancers and is named after Alla Shelest. This woman was one of the first choreographers of the Samara theater and stood at its origins. The Alla Shelest Festival received a very honorable award - the Order of Catherine the Great. This significant event took place in 2003. And since 2011 he is a member of the Association of Festivals in Europe.

Building

In the 30s of the 20th century, a building was built in which the Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theater has been located ever since. Its architect is N.A. Trotsky. He and his colleague N.D. Katsenelenbogen won the course and their joint project was chosen for implementation. The building is magnificent, massive. According to art historians, this is a pilonad style, its late era. This is a vivid example of a brutal classic. You can safely consider the theater room a monument of architecture.

Previously, the theater occupied only the central part of the building, a sports school was located in the right wing, and a library in the left.

In 2006, a large-scale reconstruction of the theater was carried out. It lasted 4 years and froze in 2010 for the anniversary.

Reviews

Spectators leave a lot of reviews about the theater. The vast majority of them are positive. Many spectators have become loyal fans of the theater and advise those who have not yet been in it, be sure to visit it.

Viewers really like artists, costumes and sets, directing is also pleasing. Many who had not been fond of operas, ballets, operettas before visiting the theater began to love these art genres.

The building after renovation has become beautiful and very well equipped in technical terms.

The audience is pleased that after many years of inactivity the theater has revived and began a new life.

You can find negative reviews about places in the auditorium on the balcony. They are designed extremely uncomfortably, according to those who happened to sit in these places. There is practically nothing to see and in order to be able to see at least something, one has to watch the performances while standing.
