The Vasilievsky Theater is one of the youngest in St. Petersburg. His repertoire includes performances for both adults and children. The troupe implements the project "School Theater", within the framework of which subscription packages have been developed for students.
Theater History
The city of St. Petersburg is famous for a huge variety of troupes . The theater on Vasilyevsky is one of them. It opened in 1989. Initially, it was an experimental studio. The initiative for its creation belongs to the administrator of the famous bit quartet "Secret" Vladimir Slovokhotov. Soon the studio changed its status and name. She turned into the Satire Experimental Theater. The official date of his birth is September 1, 1989.
The theater on Vasilievsky needed its own building. The persistence of its creator helped the troupe in this matter. He got the city authorities to give his artists the mansion of the widow of state adviser von Derviz - the former House of Culture of the Tobacco Factory named after Uritsky.
After the troupe settled in this room, the name changed again. Now it was a satire theater on Vasilyevsky.
Director and artistic director Vladimir Slovokhotov managed to gather brilliant actors into his troupe. Today, famous stage masters and talented young artists serve in it.
The theater is actively touring, participating in competitions and festivals, and is a laureate of such awards as Golden Spotlights, Triumph and Golden Mask.
His repertoire includes domestic and foreign classical plays, works of modern playwrights, fairy tales, performances for adolescents, drama, comedy, and melodrama.
In theater productions, traditional forms coexist with original and experimental concepts.
From 2007 to 2011 The main director of the theater was Pole Andrzej Buben. He gave the productions a European sound.
Now the main director is V. Tumanov.
Since 2010, the theater abandoned the word "satire" in its name. Now it is called differently. Its current name is the St. Petersburg Drama Theater on Vasilyevsky.

Chamber scene
The theater on Vasilyevsky in the beginning of the 21st century opened another stage, which was called "Chamber". It is located at Maly prospect, house number 49.
It is here that the actors of the theater prepared their skits, which became legendary. On the same stage, they rehearsed their independent work.
Also, there were exhibitions of artists' works, workshops on dramaturgy were held, master classes and creative meetings took place.
Performances for young viewers are taking place on the Chamber stage today. Satire Theater on Vasilyevsky specifically for children developed subscription. For younger students - "Journey to the land of fairy tales." For high school students - "Classics on the modern stage."
Since 2011, the Chamber Stage has been serving young theater workers as a platform for experimentation. Young, promising directors and actors are given the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity. Theatrical readings of plays by young playwrights are also held here.
