The basic strategic task posed by the government of the Yaroslavl region to the team is to bring the sky gate of Yaroslavl to operational break-even, which can only be achieved through the development of the air harbor, its route network, transition to a continuous mode of operation, modernization of the airfield infrastructure, and the beginning of international flights.

Yaroslavl Airport was created on the basis of the former military airfield. It was transferred into the ownership of the Yaroslavl region by order of the Russian authorities of 08.13.1998 No. 1038-r.

The terminal was commissioned in 2002, modernized in 2013. In the period from November 2, 1998 to July 9, 2004, the unit of the airport was the unitary state enterprise of the Yaroslavl region "Tunoshna Airport". During this time period, it was transformed into a budgetary state institution of the Yaroslavl region of the Aerosel Tunoshna nuclear plant. Since July 9, 2004, its representative has been Aerosel Tunoshna OJSC.
In 2015, from May 29 to May 31, the Golden Ring flight was conducted on the basis of the air hub. And in 2016, from May 27 to 29, on the basis of the international air hub Yaroslavl, the Golden Ring air tour and the Aviaaregion-2016 air show were held.
