In 1835 he wrote his most famous drama "Masquerade" by Lermontov. The summary of the poem tells the reader about the life of Eugene Arbenin, a professional card player who has become rich in this field. Since the man had already lived to middle age, he decided to settle down, quit playing and start a family, which he did soon. His young wife Nina (officially Nastasya Pavlovna) was a real angel, Arbenin fell in love unexpectedly for himself, so he constantly sat, as if on a powder keg, jealous of his beauty for everyone he met.
The first suspicions of the wife’s infidelity
Lermontov portrayed the inconsistency of characters and different views on the life of an aged man and his young wife in the play “Masquerade”. The summary tells that Nina loved going to balls, while Arbenin broke the vow and sat down at the cards. Once he rescued Prince Zvezdich from a misfortune, who was largely lost. From the gambling house, the comrades went to Engelhardt - to the masquerade house. Arbenin in the new society felt like a stranger, he wanted to go home as soon as possible, but his young and beautiful friend was at the peak of popularity.
One stranger in a mask confessed to Zvezdich in love, and he asked her to give something in memory of the meeting. The beauty was afraid to be recognized and gave a bracelet dropped by someone. The prince boasted his trophy to Arbenin, the jewelry seemed familiar to him, but he did not attach any importance to it. Evgeni Aleksandrovich returns home and waits for his spouse, what was his surprise when Nina did not have one bracelet, and then it turned out that she was not at the ball, but at a public masquerade, where decent women were ordered to enter.
The investigation of a jealous husband
The inability and unwillingness to hear the person talking to you, wanted to show Lermontov in his drama “Masquerade”. The summary tells us that Nina ran around all jewelry stores in search of a trinket like a lost bracelet, but found nothing. In desperation, she went to her friend the widow of Baroness Stral and talked about her troubles. The girlfriend realizes with horror what she did, because it was she who in the mask came up to Zvezdich and gave him someone else's jewelry.
Everyone thinks only of himself and saves his reputation, this was clearly shown in the play "Masquerade" by Lermontov. The summary tells us that the Baroness subtly hints to Zvezdich that the stranger who gave the bracelet is Nina, thereby removing suspicions from herself. The prince begins to look after Madame Arbenina, but she pushes him away, not understanding what is the matter. Zvezdich spread the rumors about his affair with Nina to the whole of St. Petersburg, and Eugene once again convinced that he was brutally deceived.
Disclosure of fraud
The vileness and insidiousness of secular society was portrayed in his play by M. Lermontov. The Masquerade, a brief summary of which tells us that the Baroness nevertheless admitted everything to both Arbenin and Zvezdich, tells us that Eugene planned to take revenge on his offenders, not wanting to listen to any excuses. Arbenin brings his wife ice cream poisoned by poison, and she dies the same night.
Friends and acquaintances come to Nina for the funeral, as well as Zvezdich with an unfamiliar gentleman, who, at the masquerade, predicted misfortune to Arbenin. The prince with all calls Eugene the murderer and tells him in detail the true story of the bracelet. Stupidity and blind jealousy ruined an innocent life - this is what Lermontov wrote "The Masquerade." The summary tells that in the end Arbenin lost his mind, and Zvezdich was deprived of honor and tranquility, because he could not challenge his offender to a duel.
