The largest walking excavator

The largest walking excavator in Russia with one hundred and twenty electric motors and weighing four thousand tons began to mine coal in the Irkutsk region. Its weight in the state moving along the coal mine is supported by the so-called skis, or support shoes, and in motionless it lies on the ground with its main plate, which, if necessary, raises, displaces and sets in a new place. To do this, use the skis, which, at the command of a mechanic, rise, move, lower to the ground and take on the weight of the machine. Then the cycle repeats again.

In this regard, it will be appropriate to clarify that a new coal mine is opening in the Irkutsk Region - Mugun, which they plan to exploit for the next four hundred years, since the deposits discovered in it are estimated in billions of tons. That is why other walking excavators, previously operated at already unpromising sites, are actively moving here.

Walking excavator

The new walking excavator was launched by the Ural machine builders, its cost reaches about four hundred million rubles, so it is not known whether someone will order another copy of such a miracle technique. Perhaps he will be for a long time the only heavyweight in the industry.

Its technical characteristics are excellent because, compared with its predecessors, its one-hundred-meter working boom is twenty to thirty meters longer and ends with a bucket containing forty tons of ore, suspended from a chain composed of links weighing one hundred kilograms each. Today, while still at the stage of running-in and grinding of units, this walking excavator already produces thirty thousand cubic meters of coal in one day. It is more powerful than its predecessors, released ten to twenty years ago.

Walking excavators
Although comparing it with other models is not entirely correct. A new walking excavator is completely different possibilities, at least in terms of the range of movement of the soil, reaching two hundred meters, which is sixty meters further than the most advanced machine before.

To service this giant, reminiscent of the inside of a production workshop, a team of only seven people is needed, because it is controlled from a computer remote control. Electronic diagnostics protects the walking excavator from breakdowns, fires, malfunctions. Moreover, the entire control process fits in two small joysticks, which are used to play computer games.

Walking excavator
The mechanic Viktor Tovpik, who had been dealing with walking excavators for more than thirty years, was invited to direct his management. His impressions were wonderful, which was noted by both correspondents and foreign guests present at the presentation. Victor said that at first he was amazed at the size of the new machine, but when he tried to control it, he was even more impressed with its obedience and ease of operation.

Already during the run-in, this walking excavator increased coal production by more than 50%, while significantly reducing costs. What will happen when the car reaches full working power?
