In this article, we’ll show you how to include a line in Word. We will analyze the two most famous methods. In addition, we will tell you how to do this in different versions of the program. Also, do not forget to mention why the line is needed and what can be done with it. If you use the Word program for professional purposes or are just going to learn it, this article is just for you.
We include the line in the "Word" 2003
In Word, the lineup is included in different ways, depending on the version of the program. Now we will consider the most famous and still popular - the 2003 version. Many are so used to it that they still do not want to switch from it to the later version. And someone uses it because the power of the computer does not allow you to install a newer one. But be that as it may, the tool, the use of which will be discussed in this article, is present in this version. So, how do you enable the ruler in Word?
This is easy enough to do. You just need to click on the "View" on the top of the toolbar . A context menu will open in which you need to put a check mark next to the "Ruler". After you do this, you will add another interface element - a ruler.
Turn on the line in the latest versions of "Word"
On later versions of the program in Word, you can turn on the line in much the same way, but there are still some differences.
First you need to go to the "View" tab. Only here the context menu will not open, the program toolbar will simply change. In this tape, find the area called "Show." It has three fields for a tick, you need to put it where it says "Ruler."
The second way to turn on the ruler
So, we have already figured out how to include a ruler in the Word program. But, of course, this is not the only way. Moreover, it is quite time-consuming, which cannot be said about the one that will be given now. However, it is worth warning that it can not be used in all versions of the program. For example, in Word 2007 it can be applied, but in the new version of 2016, no.
The bottom line is simple: you need to click the corresponding icon, which is located above the page scroll slider vertically. The icon itself and its exact location you can see in the picture.
By clicking it, you turn on the ruler.
What a ruler can do
Of course, the article would not have covered the topic if it had not been told about the functions of the line itself. You see, it was foolish to add a tool to the program that only measures the page size vertically and horizontally. Now we will analyze in detail all the features of the line and its application.
Indent
In Word, the line can be used in different ways. You can use it to measure the page, but this is not necessary, because the standards are always the same. Now we will analyze the two main applications of the line, and begin with indentation.
In order to indent or paragraph, or, as it is also called, the "red line", you must use the slider on the ruler. This slider is on the left side of the horizontal ruler. It is located at the very top.
To make a paragraph, you just need to drag this slider to the right. Note that if you want to indent all paragraphs of a text, you must first select it.
Make a ledge
The second function of the line is the protrusion. It shifts all lines of the paragraph except the first. To make it, you need to use the slider, which is located in the middle.
The essence is the same as indented. You need to initially select the text that you want to convert, and then change the location of the slider.
As for the rest of the sliders, everything is simple there. The lowest one serves to, having fixed the distance between the middle and upper slider, move them left or right. And the slider on the right is needed to resize the lines of text themselves. But it is best to independently change their position in order to understand everything in practice.
